Cash and Markets

07 October 2024 - The Cash and Markets Technical Working Group (TWiG) has transitioned to a Community of Practice (CoP) on Markets in Crisis (MIC), a platform that will have a dedicated space for WASH and market specialists to initiate conversations on a wider range of MBP and WASH topics. Following this, we will be decommissioning this Cash and Markets TWiG webpage soon. For information or updates, please visit the MIC webpage.

The main objective of the GWC Cash and Markets Working Group is to strengthen the GWC members’ understanding of and engagement with market-based approaches, and to explore and build evidence on market-based approaches in water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH).

As one of its strategic principles, the GWC works in partnership with all WASH actors, including local and national actors, non-governmental organizations, academia and the private sector, to find solutions to needs for cash and markets in humanitarian contexts. The Working Group members commit to active participation on a yearly basis.

Webinars:

In 2020 and 2021, the GWC Cash and Markets Working Group, in collaboration with Pro-WASH and CaLP developed a series of webinars on market-based programming in WASH in emergencies. This included:

1. GWC introductory webinar on cash and markets (in English, French, Spanish and Arabic)

2. Launch of the evidence-building study (in English, French, Spanish and Arabic)

3. Launch of the market-based programming guidance (in English, French, Spanish, Arabic and Portuguese)

Since 2015, the Cash and Markets Working Group has developed a number of key resources on cash and markets, as part of a Resource Center. These resources are:

 

Trainings:

Based on the finding of the evidence-building study and on the MBP 4 WASH Guidance, the GWC developed a flagship training course for MBP 4 WASH in emergencies. It is a four-week online course.
